Ontario County Streets & Resiliency Project

Ontario County is developing a county-wide plan to improve how access to county roads is managed, how streets serve everyone, and how the road network can better withstand future challenges. The plan covers all 265 centerline miles of county roads — from growing suburban corridors to agricultural routes and rural communities.

This is your opportunity to share what matters to you about the county roads in your community. We want to hear from residents, farmers, businesses, and local officials.

What Is Access Management?

  • Controls where driveways and intersections connect to county roads, improving safety and reducing crashes
  • Preserves road capacity by limiting unnecessary conflict points along high-traffic corridors
  • Guides future development decisions through clear, consistent county-wide standards
  • Establishes an Official County Map to coordinate access as properties develop over time

What Are Complete Streets?

  • Designs roads to safely accommodate all users: drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, farm equipment, and horse & buggy
  • Tailors improvements to context: rural roads, growing suburban corridors, and mixed-use areas each get appropriate treatment
  • Supports seniors aging in place and safe routes for children to walk and bike
  • Integrates multimodal access into the county's development review process

What Is Resiliency?

  • Ensures county roads can withstand and recover from environmental disruptions
  • Identifies alternative route gaps in the network for redundancy
  • Coordinates drainage infrastructure (culverts, ditches, stream crossings) and proactively maps county ownership and maintenance responsibilities
  • Embedded in culvert replacements, bridge rehabs, and pavement projects to improve capacity and reduce vulnerability
